Liberty Science Center

September 28, 2009

Located in Jersey City, NJ the Liberty Science Center was recently named one of Parents Magazine’s 10 best science centers, and for a good reason.  Offering 9 of exhibit it mostly caters to the school age set, but there are plenty of activities for toddlers and pre-schoolers as well.  I-explore is an interactive play exhibit that will keep a child under 5 busy for hours and hours.  Other exhibits such as “Eat and Be Eaten” cater to the entire family.  Dozens of live animals on display in their natural environment make a trip to this museum much like a mini zoo visit as well.

One of my favorite features of this museum are the science experiments conducted throught the museum during the day.  When you come in you will receive a schedule of all the experiments taking place. Although most are recommended for ages 6 and up they kept our toddler’s attention.

Another wonderful and unque feature is the two movie theaters: imax and 3d.  The new feature, Dinosaurs 3d: Giants of the Pantagonia is a 45 minute wonderfully rendered movie.  I wouldn’t recommend it for the very young children as the dinosaurs are so life like even our 3.5 year old had to climb in Daddy’s lap, but children about that age and older will love it.  Lots of fun for mom and dad too!

The Liberty Science Center is a wonderful experience for the whole family.  When you buy tickets decide which movie you want to attend as those cost extra.  Plan your day around the science experiments!
